Poznan Nightlife
There's good news for party lovers arriving in Poznan. The nightlife here is said to rival , and locals would even say better , Poland's more obvious party destinations such as Warsaw, Wroclaw and Krakow. In fact Poznan is considered at the very forefront of electro and dance music in Poland, and many of the nation's top DJs and producers hail from this part of the country. Great news then for dance freaks; if making shapes to the latest sub-genre of house is your bag baby, then you can't go far wrong with nights out at the likes of Cute, Kukabura and SQ Club.
For those that would rather listen to a car alarm than stomach another night of techno there's no need to fear either - Poznan has a traditional party atmosphere that few cities its size can match. The Rynek (Main Square) is the centre of the action, and during the warmer months the heart of Poznan is crowded with sippers drinking up the sun along with their beer. If it's a bit nippy out then the various interiors of many a good venue mean that revellers don't have to go far for a good time. Places like Tapas, Pod Minogi, Lizard King and Brovaria blur the lines between restaurant, bar, and club and provide for many a legendary late night out. The latter two are also good choices for live music.

Whereas the Rynek can rightfully be considered the central hub of Poznan's nightlife, there's plenty of venues scattered elsewhere in the Old Town for those prepared to delve. With Poznan's large student population you'll find a decent scattering of raw, laid-back drinking dens. Check out Kisielice, Dragon and Czytelnia (ul. Marcin 69) for some authentic artsy anarchy. Other favourites with party-goers of all kinds include Proletaryat, the obligatory Commie-themed bar, The Dubliner (ul. Marcin 80/82), the obligatory Irish bar and Tuba (ul. Male Grabary 6), the obligatory meatmarket with lasers, girls and commercial hits!
Finally for those who didn't know it, Poland has quite a strong penchant for jazz. If you're a fellow fan then Blue Note (ul. Kosciuszki 76), Sushi Jazz Sarp (Stary Rynek 56) and Czerwony Fortepian (ul. Wroniecka 18) are the places to head.
Hopefully you've got a few tips to take with you on your adventures into the Poznan nightlife, but there's much more to be discovered than can be written here, so be prepared to follow your nose. Whereas you're more likely to make life friends than to encounter any trouble in Poznan, if you do get any dirty looks from the local rude-boys simply dispel the danger with a cheap round of vodka and talk of Polish national heroes. Bigging up Jerzy Dudek, Artur Boruc (Celtic goalie) and Robert Kubica (Poland's answer to Schumacher) proves that you love Poland as much as your own mother.

And let me clarify my intentions are clear that i only want to enjoy the place and do some sightseeing. although once in a while i do chat up beautiful women but never 'target' sleeping with them (am only saying this since most people herein are talking about women there being ugly or beautiful). I only want to know how indian men are treated there in Poznan and in Poland in general? is there any thing I need to be worried of?

| I saw some comments here, and I was worried. There are a lot of racism with foreigners? btw, some of you mentioned a few clubs, cafes, museums, etc.. I wonder what the best coffees, best restaurants and the best disco / night club in terms of music, the environment of people, and women. it's true that there are many beautiful women as they say? from what I saw in pictures, women do not seem to Poznan this city or this country, because they aren't blonde but are brunettes right?
I hope to answer;)
Have fun

Nowowiejskiego (there are Meskal, Pod Minoga, Stare Kino, Almirage and many other, here you have some addresses http://www.9477.pl/e/kluby_muzyczne_poznan/index.php) !

| I will be in Poznan in two weeks to speak at a conference at Adam Mickiewicz University. The town looks beautiful from what I have seen on the web and I am hoping for some good nightlife venues. After reading some of the posts on here I am a bit concerned. I am American and while I speak Japanese and Hebrew, I don't know a word of Polish. Is there really a lot of xenophobia in Poznan or is that just a couple of idiots who had a bad time or have a bad attitude (I am thinking of Hans and Gregg's posts). Most of the posts are pretty positive, and I have heard great things from people who have been there. I am also wondering about anti-semitism there because I am Jewish. I have been to Berlin and experienced none, in fact quite the opposite, and I assume things are also good in Poznan, but wanted to be sure. Actually, so far the worst anti-semitism I have faced in all the countries I have spoken in was ironically in England.

I have worked from 1995 to 2000 in POZNAN and it is still my favorite city alround! worked in south america, the USA in several states, pacific, and work at the moment in ENGLAND! But the atmosphere was in POZNAN top top top! The DUBLINER, STUDIO JACK, HARRY's PUB, and many more! dont even know if those places still exists after 9 years?
the good news is that probably I will start to work again later this year in poznan and wonder if there is a location for EXPATS at the moment? I am really interested to know ;o)

| I studied in Poznan together with a lot of foreigners from the U.S,England,Norway,Sweden;Germany,Italy,Taiwan etc. and I have never wittnessed nore heard that somebody got into a fight during my 5 years I spent there.
Actually I never felt any fear being out on the streets or clubs in complete contrast to my home country Germany, where I feel much more endangered everyday. When it comes to girls and nightlife,I can only say fantastic...I never had more fun in my life. Now I am in Cologne, which is supposed to be THE Party city in Germany, but all I can think of is only when I am going back to Poznan again.
Most of my classmates that already finished their studies and went back to their countries just think the same,so I am really suprised to hear so much negative comments from some people. The best time to come to Poznan is May and June, that when all the restaurants open their tables outside at Stary Rynek.I can recommend Blue Note on Thursdays(during the semester),and Post Dali and SQ on Fridays and Saturdays.
In general there are a lot of nice cafes like Zielona Weranda or Kakao Republic where you can just chill and enjoy life.
So please make your own opinion about Poznan.

| I was really curious to read "Poznan Nightlife"!
But quite disapointed about some contributions: people are like this or like that, girls are like this or that...
In my point of view its people who "make" places; starting from ourselves!
If we are open and relaxed , curious about everything its half way for beautifull experiences...
Of course our experiences are the base for our statements, but we should remember that probally there are a lot of people we have not seen, met and talked to........
|

| So John, which places do you recommend?
|
reviewed by Kalle from Sweden on Mar.06.2009 |

| I have to laugh - I've been here 5 years and only seen 1 fight in a bar and guess what the guy was English.
I go to the football - no trouble even there and there are some seriously scary guys there.
I think the problem is a lot of foreigners tend to be in the less classier establishments like Dragon looking for easy sex, there are always foreigners there and less classier girls. So far I have only seen the worst clubs mentioned here.
The guys who sometimes are aggressive to foreigners only do so if they think the guy is being insulting and arrogant - and they only go to the worst pubs in the city serving cheap beer.
You see the same thing in England except worse, there doesn't need to be a reason in England for the racism and violence.
Resentment to foriegners is more common in the south, especially in Krakow but it does exist but very rare in Poznan.
Not that it really matters but Poznan for sure has the best looking women in Europe.
If you come here and don't find them, you are going to the wrong places.
My advice coming here is to not act arrogantly and condescendingly as a lot of foreigners do here.
A lot of the guys I see behaving this way are losers in their own countries and would have no chance scoring with good looking girls' back home let alone here not speaking the language. If there are English 'jack the lads' in a bar, myself and my English/American friends will leave and we will just ignore them - these guys cause trouble everywhere and we have met some right clowns here.
It's all about your attitude when you come here basically.

| Hi Everybody,
I'm workin in Poznan for a few months and let's say that i'm very surprised by the cosy atmosphere in this town, especially by Night. I'm not agree with all the comments, i've red. I saw no fights, all the clubs are not full of men and girls in here are very communicative and naturally beautiful. Of course, it depends in which club you've been to party... I met a lot of interesting people in a very short period. I love it.

| The thing i liked about Poznan was that there weren't many clubbers about, it has a more sophisticated feeling, with cafes open late. Not like in England with drunk ugly English people vomiting in the streets.
|

| well, that is very true Jack, but you won't be hearing this ever from a website that actually ives on promoting Poznan and their messy town, with agressive drunk people everyday after 9pm...
If you read on internet, they also promote Portugal as being a country with beautiful girls, but when you go there... bleahh..

|
reviewed by Hans from Germany on Jan.17.2009 |

| I stayed in Poznan with business for more than 4 months, so i can tell you the inside and outside. I left because the girls in other cities are much more beautiful, and there are not racial problems in other places, like there are here in Poznan.
Each and everytime in disco clubs, when there are more than 10 polish boys (and always boys are a majority in clubs in Poznan), they start a fight, they are very agressive (of course against foreigners).
They think that foreigners came here only to sleep with the polish girls.
Which are, by the way, more ugly than in the average city of Poland.
Overall, this city is definitely not worth it.
