Ten Years of Polish Wikipedia

Ten years have passed since the first Polish article was published in the multi-lingual free online encyclopedia Wikipedia. A weekend of special events took place in Poznan marking the event, including discussions and meetings on how to improve the encyclopedia for users and contributors.

Polish Wikipedia was founded in September 2001 by doctor Krzysztof Jasiutowicz and and physicist Pawel Jochym. The first articles were written as part of the independent Polish Free Online Encyclopedia, joining Wikipedia officially in January 2002.

The Polish edition of Wikipedia is now the fifth largest of the hundreds of language-specific editions of Wikipedia, boasting over 800 000 articles on a huge variety of topics.
