Poland's Oldest Priest Passes Away

The oldest priest in Poland has died in Poznan at the age of 104. Father Kazimierz Herud served as a priest in Poznan from 1957 until his retirement in 1981, on the day Martial Law was declared in Poland (13 December).

The cheerful clergyman was born in 1906, ordained in 1933, and was imprisoned during the war in a German concentration camp. After the camp was liberated by allied forces, Father Herud served as chaplain of the Polish MIlitary Mission at the British Army of the Rhine.

Since his retirement, Father Herud lived in a senior's home for priests in Poznan.
