Speed Eating on Fat Thursday

On the last Thursday before lent, Poles celebrate “Fat Thursday” with a unique tradition. Similar to Mardi Gras or the UK’s Pancake Tuesday, Fat Thursday is a day for consuming paczki - jam-filled donuts. Most will eat a couple symbolic donuts, but there are some who take eating donuts on Fat Thursday to a whole new level!

Piotr Frackowiak has won a speed eating contest in Poznan after eating ten paczki donuts in four minutes and twelve seconds on Fat Thursday. His closest competitor, last year’s champion Wojciech Szybisty, finished eight seconds later. No drinks are allowed during the competition and participants must finish all ten donuts placed before them.
