This Saturday many in Poznan caught one of the city's biggest events - and the biggest marathon in Poland - the Poznan Marathon. The marathon is now in its eighth year, and this time over 3000 runners registered for the event. Of course, a race must have its winners, and this year's unofficial winner is Paul Tangus from Kenya, finishing in 02:16:24 in the men's category, and Ewa Brych Pajak of Poland finishing in 02:39:59. The inline skating race was won by Witold Mazur of Poland in 00:36:04, and the wheelchair marathon was won by Bogdan Krol of Poland in 00:39:32. Overall, 2406 runners took part, with 2246 men and 160 women running, and featuring contestants from all over Europe as well as the United States, the United Kingdom, Japan, Kenya, Russia, and Kyrgyzstan.

The marathon lasts 42.195 km from its start at Baraniaka Str. to the finish line at Lake Malta. Prizes are awarded to those placing first through tenth for men, first through sixth for women, first place in each age group, first through third in the wheelchair competition, and first through sixth place in the inline skating competition. So far, these are the unofficial results however; the official results will be announced in two weeks, when the prizes will be handed out.
