If you want a better understanding of Poznan than you can get from simply strolling its streets, step into the Museum of the History of the City of Poznan, located inside the beautiful Town Hall. The museum was opened in 1954, and houses many artefacts that managed to survive the war. Not only will you get to see the gorgeous elaborately decorated ceilings of the Hall, but you can get a sense of the city's history, both Polish and German, and the many changes it has gone through. The museum's three floors feature weapons, crafts, household objects (of royalty, of course), as well as paintings of or by famous Poznanians, and maps for the city from different centuries.
